Getting started
Screencrab.me has two parts: a Chrome extension that captures bugs, and the web app at app.screencrab.me, where reports are read and your team is managed. Setting up takes a few minutes.
Set up
- Create an account at app.screencrab.me/signup, follow the link in the email we send, and name your organization. It starts a free 7-day trial of the Team plan, with no card needed.
- Make a project on the Projects page, one for each site or app you test, and add the people who should get its reports.
- Invite your team from the Members page. Members capture; viewers read reports and get the emails, for free.
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store and pin it to Chrome’s toolbar.
- Sign it in: click its icon, then Sign in, then Connect in the web app.
Capture a bug
- Open the site you’re testing, click the extension’s icon, choose the organization and project, then Capture on the site. Chrome asks once whether the extension may use that site.
- A small toolbar appears on the page. From the minutes before a screenshot, or for as long as a recording runs, the console and network activity is kept with what you capture.
- Screenshot: mark it up with arrows, boxes, numbered steps and text, and blur anything private. Then describe the finding, choose its report and Save finding.
- Record: this tab, an area of it, a screen or window, or an area of one, with your microphone if you’d like to talk it through. Stop from the toolbar or the icon, check the recording, then Save finding.
- When you’re done with the site, Stop capturing on this tab.
Passwords, tokens, cookies and authorization headers are removed from the logs in the page, before anything leaves it.
Publish a report
Findings collect in a draft report until you’re ready. Open Your draft reports from the toolbar or the icon, write a summary, and Publish. Everyone on the project gets an email with a link to the report, where they see each finding with its screenshot or recording and the console and network logs beside it.
Roles
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including billing and deleting the organization |
| Admin | Manage people, projects and settings |
| Member | Capture and publish reports in their projects |
| Viewer | Read reports in their projects and get the emails. Free. |
Plans and billing
Owners choose a plan on the Billing page, where they also update the card, see invoices and cancel. Each owner, admin and member is a seat; see pricing.
Your data
Screenshots and recordings are kept as long as your plan says. You can delete your account from Account in the web app, and owners can delete an organization from its Settings. The privacy policy has the details.
